TURN IT UP!!!!

Over the last decade James Hunter has secured his reputation as Britain’s greatest homegrown blues’n’soul man, with his last two albums, the Grammy-nominated ‘People Gonna Talk’ (2006) and ‘The Hard Way’ (2008), both topping the US Billboard Blues chart and winning acclaim from critics and fans – including Van Morrison, Chris Isaak, Junior Wells and Allen Toussaint.

Now Hunter is back with his band The James Hunter Six and ‘Minute By Minute’, a new album featuring 12 original numbers that showcase his honeyed, soul-wrenching voice, with its heavy shades of Sam Cooke and Jackie Wilson, superlative songcraft, and raw, expressive guitar playing.

The James Hunter Six features James Hunter on guitar and vocals, Lee Badau (baritone sax), Damian Hand (tenor sax, flute), Jonathan Lee (drums), Jason Wilson (double bass), and Kyle Koehler and Andrew Kingslow (who also adds percussion) sharing keyboard/piano duties.

The band will play some UK shows in the spring.  The dates are:

28 March         LONDON                    Islington Assembly Hall

03 April            BIRMINGHAM           Hare & Hounds

05 April            MANCHESTER          Band on the Wall

Tickets are available from www.jameshuntermusic.com, box offices and usual agents.

In a 30-year career, Hunter has seen exhilarating highs and spirit-testing lows, from wowing UK rockabilly crowds in the ‘80s with his alter ego Howlin’ Wilf, to singing backing vocals for Van Morrison, busking on the streets of London to performing with his group at the Hollywood Bowl and supporting Aretha Franklin, Etta James, and Willie Nelson on tour.

Says James, “I think I’ve spent my whole career on the edge of something big happening, which has kept up the excitement, without me ever settling into complacency.  I’m happy to be making records as I don’t think I could be successful at anything else. It’s the only thing I’m quite good at!”
